What Andrew Says About Sports Data Journalist Job?

In this blog post, we will be sharing Andrew's thoughts on Sports Data Journalist Job. Have you ever wondered what sports data journalists do to prepare and cover a match? Well, Andrew Goldie is going to show you!

Andrew is one of DoScouting’s sports data journalists, he lives in Tucson (USA) and he graduated from college last December. With a degree in hotel and restaurant management, he works part-time in a hotel in his hometown and also as a freelance journalist at DoScouting.

“I manage both jobs by working with each schedule. I work part-time at the hotel, usually 3 days a week 2-10 PM shifts. With all the games I cover being nighttime games, I make sure to get those days off from work so I can focus on preparing for the game.”

Andrew covers both basketball and hockey games, but he also has plans to start covering baseball soon. Being his favorite sport, he already started to work on baseball training to get ready for the season ahead.

Andrew covered Washington Huskies against the Arizona Wildcats basketball game and he recorded a bit of his coverage routine. He showed how he gets ready to cover a match, what he brings with him, how he gets to the arena, and how it works to be a sports data journalist.

About future plans with DoScouting, Andrew says “I am looking to move to a larger city that has more sports and teams available to cover. For me, the DoScouting job is more important (than his work at the hotel industry) because sports are a passion of mine and I’d like to transition fully into the sports industry.”
